Paul Gruwell (1933-2014) aka Sky Bear, was a filmmaker at Boeing in 1960's and later moved to LA where he worked in animation at Hannah-Barbera, Marvel, Film Roman, Disney, Filmation, Amblin, Warner Bros, and other studios. The Los Angeles Times once called Paul H. Gruwell "one of the last hand-drawn animation artists" in the movie industry.
Desperation Peak depicts a peak in the eastern Olympic Mountains near Mt Constance first ascended by Neil Jacques and Ron Strong in 1952. This painting was likely a commission by Neil Jacques or possibly used as an illustration for a publication in the 1960's.
